The Ecocapsule is a compact mobile home that enables you to live virtually anywhere in an instant. But it’s not just some glorified popup camper, it’s more like a self-powered, portable studio apartment.
If you’re serious about adventuring, then you may want to consider ordering your Ecocapsule microhome now, because the company is only producing 50 in their first year, which means you may end up waiting awhile to get yours. On the bright side, if you do have to wait until the next batch go into production, the company promises a reduced price – the current price on the first 50 is $94,835, which you can reserve with a $2,400 downpayment. But what’s so special about this “mobile egg” that makes it worth its nearly six-figure price tag?
For starters, it’s fully wind and solar powered, with a storage capacity of 10kWh. That’s enough power to keep the home running for about five to seven days, assuming normal usage. Of course, draining the battery is not something you’ll have to worry about since the solar panels and wind turbine will charge it right back up. Oh, it also has a rainwater catchment system built in…
The surface of the Ecocapsule acts as a rain collector and transfers the water into the home where it is then passed through a filter and supplied to the faucets. All of the fixtures in the bathroom work just like any other bathroom. The toilet, however, is waterless. The first generation model comes with a separated composting toilet, whereas for the second generation model, the company has plans to offer an incineration toilet.
The Ecocapsule comes fully furnished with furniture made from lightweight honeycomb panels with a wood veneer finish. It comes standard with a desk, cabinets, racks, folding bed with mattress, kitchenette, and a baggage compartment. As if all of that wasn’t impressive enough, the Ecocapsule is a smart home that can be fully operated from your phone. It also comes fully equipped with a data network connection, cable system, sockets, switches, 12V LED lights, plus more; including an optional AC unit, mini fridge, and washing machine.
As for the construction of the Ecocapsule, it is made from a high-capacity insulated fiberglass shell supported by an aluminum frame, making it sturdy enough to stand up to the elements in a multitude of different climates.
