How This Calculator Works

This tool is only an estimator. It is programmed to slightly overestimate the size of your system to take into account cloudy days, position of panels, and other factors that could inhibit the efficiency of the panels, so that you never run out of power.

What Household Feature Uses the Most Power?

How Much Power Do We Use?

    Air Conditioning

    Air conditioning units use between 1 – 3kWh per hour.

    Water Heater

    Water heaters use an average of 380 – 500kWh per month.

    Ovens and Stoves

    Ovens on average use about 2.3kWh per hour. Stovetops use between 1 – 1.5kWh.

    Refrigerators

    Refrigerators and freezers use between 35 – 150kWh per month.

    Televisions use less than 0.02kWh up to 0.14kWh, depending largely on the size of the TV.

    Computers use very little power compared to other devices and appliances. On average, they use about 0.001 – 0.08kWh per hour.
